Trees for Water

Reforestation to protect against erosion and improve the natural water cycle, as well as provide sustainable sources of income for the community.

Our Trees for Water project is an exciting initiative that aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and protect water resources, thereby supporting the economic development of local smallholder farmers. The project involves reforestation of the river bank of the largest water source in Marente (Sumbawa Besar, NTB) with productive trees that prevent erosion and store water. This will help minimize the stress on local ecosystems caused by destructive agricultural practices such as slash-and-burn farming and the use of pesticides.

In addition to reforestation, the project will also establish food forests around the water source, providing additional income to farmers and ecological benefits for ecosystem stability. Researchers from the Faculty of Agriculture at Udayana University in Bali will collaborate with the project to find suitable raw materials for the agroforestry systems that have market potential.
