Harmoni Alam
Sustainable agroforestry systems as an alternative to destructive land use such as slash-and-burn farming, monoculture cultivation or illegal mining activities.
Imagine a future where communities thrive in harmony with nature. Our Harmoni Alam project in West Java is making this a reality. By using agroforestry systems, we are restoring degraded lands and promoting biodiversity, while creating sustainable income opportunities for local communities. Our project not only benefits the environment, but also empowers communities to build a better future.
Through this program, we directly support local farmers in West Java in establishing agroforestry systems with timber such as Sengon,

Balsa and mahogany trees, as well as cover crops such as taro, ginger and turmeric, to create an alternative to destructive farming methods such as monocultures or illegal mining. Local farmers are trapped in a destructive agricultural system based on slash-and-burn farming, monocultures and the massive use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. But there is already an alternative. This alternative is called agroforestry.
Agroforestry is a farming system that involves growing a combination of crops and trees on the same land. Both crops and cover crops are grown. This form of land use offers a number of advantages over conventional farming, such as higher biodiversity and species diversity, better soil quality, greater ecosystem stability, efficient use of resources and greater resilience to climate change. In addition, the sustainable use of trees can also create income opportunities for farmers.
Our project begins by enabling local farmers to get started with this form of sustainable agriculture. As a recognized Indonesian NGO, we cover the initial costs for tree seedlings, organic fertilizers and the training required for the conversion. We ensure that there are reliable buyers of the products from this agroforestry system at a fair price. After the first harvest after three years, the farmers build up reserves to continue the project independently. We accompany them beyond this period and help them become ambassadors for this form of sustainable forestry and agriculture in their community. If this first project is successfully implemented, our long-term goal is to involve other farmers in this program and work with them to shape the transition to sustainable agriculture.
We need your help to achieve this. Become part of our sustainable change now and support us in implementing this project.
